Slots Beginner Guide: Overview

Slot Machines, or ‘Slots' as they've come to be known more colloquially, are probably the most familiar of all ‘Gaming Machines' to be found in casinos, and have one of the longest histories. Although the number of different Slots to be found in both real-world and online casinos seems vast, the basic operation and sequence of play is ostensibly the same for each and every one of them. The basic game is one of chance, in which the player pays a stake to spin a set of reels (or a digital recreation of them) which each have a sequence of symbols on their rim. When the reels come to a halt a ‘payline' superimposed across the reels indicates which sequence of symbols represents the outcome of that spin. If that sequence matches one shown on the Slots ‘paytable', the player wins the cash reward indicated for that sequence.
