Roulette Variants
Everyone is familiar with the basic set up of roulette. The iconic red, black and green wheel and track set up has now been with us for over a hundred years. There are of course two main version of roulette; European roulette with one green zero, which gives you one of the best edges against the house of all gambling games and American roulette, which doesn’t quite offer the same payout percentage with its green zero and double zero non paying segments. With the rise of online gambling, we’ve seen the introduction of many new different roulette variants, so we decided to take a brief look at some of our favourites.
French Roulette – This classic roulette variant is extremely popular as it offers a number of custom bets where you can get ‘more than your money’s worth’ by betting on specially selected groups of numbers. For example, if you bet on the ‘voisons’ (or cousins) you get to bet nine chips (or any multiple thereof) on the seventeen numbers that lie between 22 and 25 or the roulette wheel. All the bets available are based on the fact that at one time it was believed that croupiers would try to aim the ball at the zero segment on the wheel, so it could be advantageous to bet on the numbers nearest this segment or maybe even opposite it.
Three Wheel Roulette – This is a clever roulette variant that actually runs your bets three times. As there’s three wheels at the heart of this game you have to bet three chips for every single chip you’d bet on European or American roulette, but don’t worry as you actually get three chances to win here, with all the bets placed in the normal fashion (red/black, odd/even, single number etc.) The ball is thrown, which then of course lands in the first wheels segmented partitions giving the first winning number then the remaining two wheels slowly come to a stop giving you the second and third winning numbers. There’s even a special set of ‘colour up’ bonuses where you can bet on the relationship between the three winning segments.
