Video Poker Rules: Deuces Wild
The Basics
Another of the trio of most commonly available Video Pokers is the Deuces Wild format (if you need a quick overview of how to play Video Poker generally and the most basic rules of these types of machines don't hesitate to check out our Beginners' Guide.)
The Deuces Wild game sticks with dealing from the standard fifty-two card deck found in Jacks or Better, but allows all ‘2' cards to be counted as ‘wild' i.e. they can substitute for any other card in the deck. With four ‘wilds' in play, this machine can deal three additional hand rankings to those in the basic Jacks or Better game, sitting between the Straight and Royal Flush. Similarly to the rules in Jokers Wild games, the advantage to the player by having wilds in play means the minimum threshold for a winning hand is set higher as Three Of A Kind.
Below is a payout table from a typical Deuces Wild machine to be found at a UK online casino.
| Hand | Payouts |
| Royal Flush | 400 to 1 |
| Five Of A Kind | 200 to 1 |
| Wild Royal Flush | 100 to 1 |
| Straight Flush | 50 to 1 |
| Four Of A Kind | 15 to 1 |
| Full House | 8 to 1 |
| Flush | 5 to 1 |
| Straight | 3 to 1 |
| Three Of A Kind | 2 to 1 |
| Two Pairs | 1 to 1 |
| Kings or Better (i.e. K-K, A-A) | 1 to 1 |
Deuces Wild machines are also likely to offer players the incentive of enhanced payouts when staking the maximum allowable bet on a single draw. Such ‘Max Bets' may unlock a progressive jackpot as the top prize, if the machine has that feature, or multiply the top two prizes by a fixed multiple (e.g. paying out on a Royal Flush at 1000 to 1 and Four Deuces at 800 to 1).
