Video Poker Rules: Jokers Wild
The Basics
Another common format found amongst the choices at the best UK online casinos is ‘Jokers Wild' Video Poker. (A basic guide to playing Video Poker games can be found in our Beginners' Guide if these machines are a complete mystery to you!)
The Jokers Wild format adds a Joker to the standard fifty-two playing cards that can de dealt on the game's screen. Being a ‘wild' card this means the Joker can substitute for any other card in the deck to construct a winning hand, plus gives rise to some additional hands not possible in games like Jacks or Better. These are the Five Of A Kind and the Wild Royal Flush (a Royal Flush achieved with the use of the Joker). Because of the advantage the Joker brings for players, it is common to find that the minimum paying hand on a Jokers Wild machine is set higher than Jacks or Better games – e.g. Two Pairs or a single Pair of Kings or better.
Below is a payout table typical for a Jokers Wild machine operated at a UK online casino.
| Hand | Payouts |
| Royal Flush | 400 to 1 |
| Five Of A Kind | 200 to 1 |
| Wild Royal Flush | 100 to 1 |
| Straight Flush | 50 to 1 |
| Four Of A Kind | 15 to 1 |
| Full House | 8 to 1 |
| Flush | 5 to 1 |
| Straight | 3 to 1 |
| Three Of A Kind | 2 to 1 |
| Two Pairs | 1 to 1 |
| Kings or Better (i.e. K-K, A-A) | 1 to 1 |
Similar to Jacks or Better games, staking a ‘Max Bet' on a turn will often multiply the top payout by double or, if it is a progressive version, bag the headline dynamic jackpot.
